I come from Turkey where I recently graduated from Bilkent University in Ankara. My BA is in American Culture and Literature. I have worked as a translator in an LGBTQ organization in Turkey, and it was there that I realized the struggle people in that community and other marginalized groups face each day. My interest in women’s and gender studies grew out of that awareness and inspired me to pursue a graduate degree in the discipline. I am especially interested in how intersectionality effects women’s lives and their place in society. When I complete my degree here at USF and return to Turkey, it is my hope to apply my knowledge to gain a deeper understand of the way minorities in Turkey navigate their own identities.
